My husband has been talking about open source software and basically, from what I understand it is a computer software that is free redistribution of the software, access to the source code, and the permission to allow modifications to the software and derived works that may be distributed under the same licensing conditions. Well, at least these are the words he used to explain it to me, still a little bit confused, he gave a few samples and explained the software’s uses to me.
1. HandBrake
This software which I always use to convert my movies for ipod and iphone uses are also available for Linux and Windows. It is a very useful software that performs it use with best quality video not to mention, great audio quality as well.
2. KMPlayer
This software is my husband’s favorite because of it’s minimalistic design. It is not complicated and is very user friendly. It is a multimedia player and with it’s download, you can actually process videos through its processing tools that allow to apply filters, sharpen images and change the picture properties.
3. Media Player Classic
This is a free software for audio and media player for all Windows users. A software that is very easy to use, it is a fast player which uses multiple video formats.
4. Miranda IM
This is a free instant messenger client for all Microsoft and Windows users. Without the annoying pop ups, Miranda IM has a low memory footprint, includes various security/privacy settings that save your history and is customizable.
5. MPlayer
It is a movie player that runs on so many systems, it even runs on Linux Operating System. It has out-of-the-box support, rapid bug fixes and unencrypted Blu-ray support.
